Description

Játara expanded spinward of Edorno into Nolendo, where they added another pair of files to the board. The Qaturoš (the dominant people of Nolendo) had a warrior culture for many years, and their code shows in how much harder most pieces find retreat.

All boards have squares of black and two shades of dark gray, randomly placed. Unless one is using a printing press, no two boards have exactly the same color scheme. White moves first.

L stands for Laboq, Nolendon for King. The Laboq steps one square in any direction, like in Chess.

F stands for Farlon, Minister. The Farlon steps one or two squares directly or diagonally forward or one square directly or diagonally backward. It does not leap.

Ž stands for Žrimšy, Trumpeter. The Žrimšy steps one square diagonally or leaps two squares directly or diagonally forward.

Ð stands for Ðoteš, from the Edornon word “Zoteš”, q.v. Játara. It steps one square orthogonally or leaps two in any orthogonal direction, or two diagonally forward.

M stands for Maqlu, a type of six-legged lizard used as a mount. It moves like a Knight, except that it cannot make either two-ranks-back jump.

U stands for Umatu, another type of lizard used as a mount. It steps one square in any direction except directly back.

X stands for Xiliþ, Rook. It moves like in Chess.

V stands for Veš, Pawn. The Pawn steps one square directly forward without capturing, or captures diagonally forward.

Žadra is won when you capture your opponent's King. You may theoretically move into check, but it is a blunder that usually gets you Captured. Four-fold repetition of a position is a draw, as is sixty-four moves without a capture or a Veš move.
